In the waning stages of the first session of the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred yearling sale, a Tiznow filly went through the ring at $350,000, the highest price of the evening at that point.
Out of the Abaginone mare Acey Deucey, the filly, Hip 416, was purchased by McMahon and Hill Bloodstock, agent, for Vivien Malloy and Sheila Rosenblum from the consignment of Summerfield, agent. Acey Deucey won the Prioress Stakes (gr. I) and Comely Stakes (gr. II) and produced stakes winner Preachintothedevil.
“She was a beautiful filly, wonderful family, probably two turns, and New York-bred,” Malloy said. “(She is) everything good. I remember a trainer of mine said, ‘You better step up because they’re getting really good.
“I’m selling (at the Aug. 16 session). I hope I’m as lucky as somebody else was tonight.”
Earlier in the evening Mike McMahon signed the ticket at $300,000 for a filly by To Honor and Serve out of the Tale of the Cat mare Tale of a Dream. Consigned as Hip 380, the filly was offered by Preferred Equine, agent.
“She was our top pick for a filly in that price range, so we’re really excited about it,” McMahon said. “Mrs. Seidman has made a real big commitment; she has been in the business for a very long time, but she decided to play with the big boys now, and she is definitely capable of doing that.”
McMahon said he’s pleased with the first crop of To Honor and Serve. “He was a prospect that we really thought was a top three or so in his crop,” he said.
