La Verdad repeats in distaff returning to the races at 5 following an off-the board finish against the boys in the fall Highweight Handicap (gr. iii) late last November, Lady Sheila Stable’s star sprinter La Verdad successfully defended her title in the distaff Handicap (gr. ii) april 18 at aqueduct while making short work of three rivals. After an opening quarter-mile in :22.25, and a half-mile in :44.87, new york-bred la Verdad drew off to a no-doubt-about-it 51⁄4-length win, stopping the clock after six furlongs in a very sharp 1:10 fat. “i can only hope she comes back and races as well as she has the last year and a half for us,” said trainer linda rice. “i had her in training for quite a long time without a vacation, and after the fall Highweight i decided to turn her out for a couple months; she deserved it.” la Verdad has compiled two stellar campaigns
