Trainer Linda Rice and owner Shelia Rosenblum make a good team. Their La Verdad, a speedy 5-year-old mare, has been consistently winning on the New York circuit, earning nearly $1 million in the process. Now, the thrill of victory has spurred Rosenblum to get others involved – specifically women.
“I said to myself, ‘There must be other women who would love this too,’” Rosenblum said in a New York Times article. “Maybe their kids are older now, or they just love racing or are looking for some camaraderie.”
After assembling a syndicate called Lady Shelia Stable Two with a $100,000 buy-in last April, Rice and Rosenblum partnered to start Triumphant Trio, a syndicate with a much higher buy-in rate of $500,000. They recently made headlines by purchasing an $840,000 colt by Pioneerof The Nile, sire of American Pharoah, at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic auction.
All-female partnerships are starting to appear more frequently across the country, the most famous of which is StarLadies, an offshoot of Starlight Stable.
